‘Severance’ Star Tramell Tillman Recalls Coming Out To His Mom, Who Told Him: ‘I Don’t Want This To Ruin Your Career’
Tramell Tillman shared a pivotal moment from his 20s… coming out to his mother.
In a recent interview with Variety, Tillman recalled the quiet car ride to visit his grandmother in Petersburg, Virginia. “Mom, I’m bisexual,” he told her. His mother replied, “Well, how’s that going for you?”
Years later, they had a second, more direct conversation, and his mother responded in a protective, non-judgmental way: “I don’t want this to ruin your career. I don’t want you to be blackballed. I don’t want you to be pigeonholed.”
She ended with the words that stayed with him: “Anyone you bring home, I will embrace him as my son.”
Turns out, her fears were unfounded, as Tillman, now 40, is thriving, earning acclaim for his role as Seth Milchick in Severance on Apple TV and making history as the first openly gay Black man nominated in the supporting actor drama category at the Emmys.
