L.A. Reid Representing Himself After Lawyers Withdraw From $exual A$$ault Case
L.A. Reid is headed to trial without a lawyer.
During a recent hearing in his civil case with former Arista Records executive Drew Dixon, U.S. District Judge Jeannette A. Vargas confirmed Reid would be proceeding “pro se,” meaning without an attorney, after granting his lawyers’ request to withdraw. The firm told the court Reid hadn’t paid them since February.
Judge Vargas warned Reid that he must appear in court if he does not secure new counsel before the Sept. 8 trial.
Dixon filed her lawsuit in 2023, claiming Reid began harassing her “almost immediately” after taking over Arista in 2000. She alleged the harassment escalated in 2001 when Reid “forcibly kissed her, and digitally penetrated her vulva without her consent” on a private plane. She also claimed he a$$aulted her again months later in the back of a car, and retaliated when she rejected him by refusing to hear artists she brought in.
Reid has denied the allegations.
