Trump Signs Executive Order Seeking One-Year Jail Terms For Flag Burning
Donald Trump is tackling flag-burning.
On Monday, August 25, Trump signed an executive order aimed at penalizing people who burn flags, even though courts have long protected the act as free speech under the First Amendment.
Trump said, “If you burn a flag, you get one year in jail. You will see flag burning stop immediately.”
The order targets cases where flag burning is linked to violent acts or used to incite riots. Attorney General Pam Bondi said the goal could be enforced “without running afoul of the First Amendment.”
