Ray J Backed By Mom Sonja Norwood In Kim Kardashian Defamation Case As She Files
Sworn Court Declaration
Ray J’s mother, Sonja Norwood, is firmly backing her son in court as his legal fight with Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner continues to escalate.
According to court records obtained by Us Weekly, Norwood, 75, filed a declaration on December 12 in support of Ray J’s motion to dismiss the defamation lawsuit filed against him by Kardashian and Jenner. In the filing, Norwood recounts long-standing tensions between the families that date back more than a decade.
Norwood stated that in or around 2008 she discovered Kim Kardashian and her siblings had accumulated approximately $850,000 in unauthorized credit card charges tied to members of her family. She said she informed Ray J of the alleged theft before filing her own lawsuit against the Kardashian siblings. That case was later settled in 2009.
Kim and Jenner sued Ray J in October, accusing him of making false public statements suggesting they were under federal investigation. The lawsuit points to a September 2025 livestream in which Ray J referenced a potential RICO case and compared it to the high-profile charges facing Sean “Diddy” Combs. The plaintiffs insist no such investigation exists.
Ray J has since countersued, reviving disputes surrounding the 2006 s*x tape and alleging deception and contract breaches. A judge has yet to rule on the matter.
