Kevin Gates Reveals He Was Sexually Assaulted as a Teen, Says Alleged Abuser Is Now Dead
Kevin Gates made a deeply personal and shocking revelation during a recent interview, opening up for the first time about being sexually assaulted by a man when he was a teenager.
Appearing on Club Shay Shay, the rapper spoke candidly about the trauma, explaining that the experience stayed with him for years before he was finally able to confront it publicly. Gates told host Shannon Sharpe that the man responsible is no longer alive, saying bluntly, “He’s dead. He’s outta here… He’ll never do that to anybody again.”
While Gates did not go into graphic detail, he made it clear that the experience had a lasting impact on how he views protection, boundaries, and fatherhood. “I really broke generational curses with that situation,” Gates shared, explaining that the trauma pushed him to be more present and intentional with his children.
The rapper emphasized that he’s created an open environment at home where his kids feel safe speaking up. According to Gates, his goal has always been to ensure they never carry the same silence he once did.
Gates also connected the experience to his music, revealing that his 2024 song “Protect Children” helped him process emotions he had suppressed for years. The track, he said, came from a place of healing rather than pain.
By speaking out now, Gates signaled that his intention isn’t shock value, but growth — turning trauma into purpose and using his platform to encourage honest conversations about abuse, healing, and breaking cycles.
