NBA Shuts Down Atlanta Hawks’ ‘Magic City Monday’ Promotion – League Cancels Strip Club Collab After Player Backlash
The NBA has pulled the plug on a controversial Atlanta Hawks promotion tied to one of the city’s most famous strip clubs.
League officials announced they canceled the Hawks’ planned “Magic City Monday” in-arena promotion, which had been scheduled for March 16 during Atlanta’s home game against the Orlando Magic. The event involved a collaboration with Atlanta strip club Magic City, a well-known adult entertainment venue in the city.
According to reports, the Hawks had originally planned the promotion as a nod to Magic City’s cultural influence in Atlanta. The event had already been announced publicly before the NBA stepped in to stop it.
In a statement confirming the move, the league said, “The NBA today announced that it has canceled the Atlanta Hawks’ March 16 in-arena promotion.”
The promotion had sparked criticism from some around the league, including San Antonio Spurs player Luke Kornet, who publicly questioned the idea.
“The NBA should protect and esteem women,” Kornet said while addressing the controversy surrounding the planned event.
The NBA ultimately intervened and canceled the promotion altogether, ending the planned partnership before it could take place at the March 16 game.
