‘No New Friends’ Mary J Blige Clarifies Why Some Females Are Off Limits For Husband [Video]
This week, music legend and Grammy Award winner Mary J. Blige visited the Wendy Williams Show to dish about her highly anticipated new album, The London Sessions, why it was important for her to speak with Amy Winehouse’s father and whether or not she allows her husband to have female friends.
Mary’s 13th album, The London Sessions, was a huge risk for Mary because she spent all summer recording with producers she never worked with. Mary explained,
I had to take (the chance). I needed to take it because I was beginning to feel like everything was stagnant and stuck. As an artist I felt like I was dying and doing the same thing over and over again. I needed to take that risk for myself, as an artist and for my fans as well.
While Mary was in London she also reached out to Amy Winehouse’s father.
Amy was a huge inspiration for this album. She spoke about rehab and she spoke so honestly about her trials and how she was dealing with it, it spoke to me. I wanted to get to her to tell her how much I love her and how much of a fan I was of her work and I never got to her and then she died. It completely messed me up,” Mary said.
Although Mary has never been to rehab she told Wendy how she heals,
I’m real with myself. I do the hard stuff first and pray. I really look at how and what I need to do to take responsibility and that’s the hard part.
Mary added,
I think people need or want to see a doctor, to be able to get to the part where they say, it’s me, I’m responsible for this. I’m not afraid to say that because you’ll end up stuck and in denial if you don’t.
