(EXCLUSIVE) Beastie Boys Score $667k Legal Victory Against Monster Energy Drink
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Beastie Boys scored a $667k victory in their legal battle with Monster Energy Drink, with a federal court judge siding with the band by awarding them a massive amount to pay their legal bills for having to fight over the unauthorized use of their music.
Last year, the popular rap group who formed in 1981 (with members including Michael “Mike D” Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam “MCA” Yauch (vocals, bass) and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz (vocals, guitar)) scored a 1.7 million dollar judgement against Monster Energy Drink by a federal court jury. The band sued the drink company claiming copyright infringement due to them sampling 5 of their songs without their consent for a 2012 promo video that pushed the company’s drink at a event called “Ruckus in the Rockies.”
The band argued during the case they pulled in millions licensing their songs for movies, advertisements etc. Monster argued that they did wrong but wanted to only have to pay 250k and claimed only 13k people saw the YouTube video.
