President Obama Shares Memorable Moment With Kendrick Lamar [VIDEO]
Kendrick Lamar can now check an item off his bucket list — meeting the president of the United States. The Compton-bred rapper recently visited the White House, spending some one-on-one time with President Obama in the Oval Office.
This week, Lamar’s camp shared a new video promoting the Pay It Forward mentoring program, highlighting Lamar’s visit. In the video, Lamar says:
I look at where I’m at today and realize that most of my success is owed to the mentors that was in my life. I sat down with President Barack Obama and shared the same views. Topics concerning the inner cities, the problems, the solutions, and furthermore embracing the youth, both being aware that mentoring saves lives.
In an interview with Buzzfeed, Obama’s senior adviser Valerie Jarrett discussed the president’s encounter with Lamar:
You know what the president said to him. [Because Lamar] was a little nervous — bless his heart, he’s really a very nice young man, and the president said, ‘Can you believe that we’re both sitting in this Oval Office?’
