(EXCLUSIVE) Juicy J Settles Million Dollar Lawsuit Over “Bandz a Make Her Dance”
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Juicy J has reached a confidential settlement with the music video producers who sued the rapper demanding a cut of the millions pulled in from his hit song “Bandz a Make Her Dance’, with both parties agreeing to dismiss the case.
A company named Creative Dream Productions along with a man named Mahad Dar filed a federal lawsuit against Juicy J and Columbia Records earlier this year in federal court.
The lawsuit explained that the company works with artists to produce cutting edge music videos and says they work closely with clients to capture behind the scenes raw footage, along with providing the highest quality production work.
CDP says Juicy J called them up back in August 2012 to produce a music video for his song “Bandz A Make Her Dance”. The shoot was to feature Lil Wayne and 2 Chaniz and he wanted the video to be done in 2 days.
The video shoot took place on August 26th and Mahad Dar was the principal photographer. The lawsuit explained that he is the sole owner of the video footage and the deal was he would be until Juicy J and him came to an agreement on money, then he would handle over the copyrights to the rapper.
Dar says that no deal was ever made with Columbia Records and they still released the video without his permission. He explains the video went on to be a major hit with 34 million views on YouTube and sold over 1 million copies.
The lawsuit accused Juicy J and his record label of copyright infringement and is demanding an injunction against the rapper from continuing to sell his song and also want all profits made from the song & video handed over to them.
Juicy J fired back at company & Dar who produced his music video. He explained that he owns the copyright to the song, not Dar and therefore the man cannot claim any ownership of the royalties made.
Juicy J explained that the music video director doesn’t even have a copyright to file a lawsuit against him. Also, he waited over 2 years since the video was released and that’s past the time the law allows for copyright legal battles to be filed. The rapper demanded the legal battle over the millions in profits for the song be dismissed.
Then on April 20th, despite the rapper’s docs were filed in the case informing the court that a settlement has been reached between Juicy J and the company and per their deal all claims will be dismissed once the documents are finalized for the court.
