Derek Fisher Speaks Out After Car Crash, Arrest On Suspicion of DUI
Derek Fisher (42) was arrested on suspicion of DUI after his vehicle overturned on the 101 Freeway in Sherman Oaks, CA early Sunday (June 4th). The former Lakers player and his girlfriend, former Basketball Wives star Gloria Govan (32), were not injured.
Reportedly, Fisher was driving when his vehicle veered right and onto the paved right shoulder. His vehicle (a 2015 Cadillac) continued across the right shoulder and hit the raised concrete curb and wood/metal guardrail. The impact caused the Cadillac to overturn, and it came to rest on its roof, blocking two lanes of the northbound 101. The couple were helped out of the vehicle unharmed. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Officers discovered that Fisher had been drinking. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol without incident. The following statement was released from Fisher:
On behalf of Derek Fisher and Gloria Govan, they would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. They are beyond grateful that they are both okay and that no one else was involved. Although no arrests were made, Mr. Fisher was detained for a short period of time. Both Derek and Gloria are home recovering and ask that you respect their privacy.
The couple adds,
We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. We are beyond grateful that we are both ok and no one else was involved.
