Mahershala Ali is booked! According to reports, the 43-year-old actor will star and produce Burn, an upcoming true-crime thriller by A.J. Wolfe. The feature film adaptation has been acquired by Anonymous Content. Nicole Clemens and Kevin Cotter will also produce. The book will be adapted by Fredrick Kotto, the former detective-turned-screenwriter.
The book is a contemporary crime thriller and love story set in the ultra-violent world of organized crime. It follows the incredible true story of a Northern California detective who destroyed a cartel while keeping his undercover life secret from his family.
This year, his performance as mentor Juan in the drama film Moonlight, landed him universal acclaim from critics. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, the SAG Award and the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor, and received a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award nomination. His win at the 89th Academy Awards made him the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar. He is the lead in the upcoming season of the police anthology series True Detective for HBO.
