Ice Cube Set To Star In Reboot Of MTV’s “Celebrity Deathmatch”
Celebrity Deathmatch, which ran for six seasons on MTV starting in 1998, was a favorite amongst the network’s viewers. Now, the claymation series may be one of the many television shows returning to the screen.
It’s recently been announced that MTV is bringing the series back and Ice Cube is in talks to not only host the show but executive produce alongside his partner Jeff Kwatinetz. MTV seeks to begin shopping the Deathmatch reboot to both premium and streaming networks starting in 2019.
Chris McCarthy, President of MTV, VH1 and CMT, said:
We’re excited to grow our partnership with Ice Cube and Cube Vision to reimagine this fan favorite. Deathmatch was the meme before memes, remains a hot topic on social media and will be a smart, funny way to tackle the over-the-top rhetoric of today’s pop culture where it belongs – in the wrestling ring.
After 75 episodes, Celebrity Deathmatch ended in 2002. The new reboot is being shopped around as a weekly series. Would you tune in? Let us know in the comments.
