Missy Elliott Is The 1st Female Hip Hop Artist To Receive Honorary Doctorate From Berklee College of Music
Clap clap bravo for Missy Elliott! The music icons are slated to receive a doctorate at the Berklee College of Music graduation ceremony this spring.
Justin Timberlake will also receive the honorary degree.
Elliott and Timberlake will be bestowed with honorary Doctor of Music degrees by none other than the institution’s President, Roger Brown. Kudos to Elliott for becoming the first female rapper to get the degree. She took to Twitter to share her excitement about the news.
“I am sooooooo HUMBLED!”

This isn’t the first time she’s made history recently.As previously reported that Elliott is also the first female rapper to be nominated for the 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The ceremony is scheduled for May 11 at the Agganis Arena at Boston University. Alex Lacamoire, who is a three-time Tony and Grammy-award winner, will also receive the prestigious honor.
Others who have received honorary doctorates from the school include the likes of Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, and Loretta Lyn.
