Lee Daniels Returns To Social Media, Indirectly Addresses Jussie Smollett Controversy: The Past Couple Of Weeks Have Been A Roller Coaster [VIDEO]
“Empire” creator Lee Daniels was one of the first to speak up when news broke of Jussie Smollett’s attack this past February in Chicago. In fact, he gave the world the first look at Jussie’s bloodied and bruised face during his hospital stay.
But, since reports leaked of the attack being a hoax and Jussie Smollett turned himself into police custody – Lee has been, understandably, mum on the incident. The show runner has finally broken his silence, hinting at the strife the incident has caused him and the casts of his shows “Empire” and “Star.” He posted this message to his Instagram following:
“These past couple of weeks have been a freakin’ rollercoaster. Me and my cast have experienced pain and anger, and sadness and frustration – and really don’t know how to deal with it, you know? ‘Cause everything has happened – which you’re seeing tonight – prior to the incident. And this is not what the show is made for. This show was made to bring America together; to talk about the atrocities that are happening right now in the streets. So, anyway, both shows are on tonight – ‘Star’ and ‘Empire.’ They’re incredible.”

Another fierce supporter of Jussie – “Empire” castmate, Taraji P. Henson – also recently commented on the work environment on the show’s set.
Will “Empire” be able to survive the controversy of Jussie Smollett’s incident? Let us know in the comments.
