Magic Johnson Quit Lakers Job Over Cryptic Emails Criticizing His Work Performance
This week, more alleged details were released over the fall out of Los Angeles Lakers legend, Magic Johnson, abruptly quitting his front office position with the franchise. Magic Johnson (real name Erving Johnson), 59, reportedly resigned from the Lakers as President of Basketball Operations earlier this month after being informed on some in-house criticism from owner Jeanie Buss and general manager Rob Pelinka. Fox Sports 1 analyst Ric Bucher detailed the story involving Buss and Pelinka,
“My understanding is that there were some emails that were exchanged between Rob and Jeanie…about Magic and about what Magic was and wasn’t doing.

He continues,
They were critical emails. And somehow, someway, Jeanie, from what I understand, was CC’ing or blind CC’ing Magic on everything. That was sort of protocol. Standard issue. Somehow, the exchange between Rob and Jeanie ended up on that string of the blind CC’s that were going to Magic.”
Since his impromptu resignation, Johnson has remind silent, although, on Thursday, the 5-time NBA champion tweeted a cryptic message on Twitter that has fans speculating his tweet is in reference to the Lakers front office criticism. Johnson says,
“The truth will always come to light.”

Prior to the new details, Johnson didn’t inform Buss or Pelinka about his shocking decision before he announced it in front of reporters about 90 minutes before the final game of the Lakers’ sixth consecutive season with no playoff hopes. Johnson announced to the media that he was stepping down from his position.
“I want to go back to having fun. I want to go back to being who I was before taking on this job. We’re halfway there with LeBron coming. I think this summer, with that other star coming in, whoever is going to bring him in, I think this team is really going to be in position to contend for a championship with the growth of the young players.”
