Fans Start Petition For Lizzo To Be Cast As Ursula In ‘The Little Mermaid’ Remake
Now that Halle Bailey has secured the lead role as Ariel in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, if some fans have their way, singer Lizzo will play Ariel’s arch nemesis, Ursula.

While Melissa McCarthy is in talks for the role already, fans have gone as far as starting a petition for directors to cast the Truth Hurts singer instead.

The petition reads:
“Lizzo should be Ursula in Disney’s upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid. It came to the internet’s attention on Friday, June 28 that Melissa McCarthy is in talks with Disney to star as Ursula. No offense to Melissa, but clearly the only acceptable casting choice for Ursula is the infinitely talented Lizzo. In the most self-aware statement that anyone has ever made, Lizzo has gone on record to say that Ursula would be her dream role. Lizzo is a big grrrrl with the rising star power and the sheer vocal ability that make her the perfect Ursula casting decision. Truth Hurts, and Disney seriously needs to rethink this casting.”
One fan commented,
“If it ain’t Lizzo it ain’t right”
Another added,
“Im signing bc ever since hearing Lizzo laugh in “Better in Color” I straight up thought it was perfect for Ursula and I didn’t even know a Little Mermaid remake was happening!! She would be PERFECT”
So far, the petition has nearly 2,400.
Lizzo has been vying for the role publicly since she dressed up as Ursula for Halloween last year. She told her fans,
“Tag @disney so I can get this role!”
She replied to one fan with a sad face amid news of McCarthy’s role.
