Condolences: Former NBA Player Andre Emmett Fatally Shot

Former NBA & BIG3 Player Andre Emmett Fatally Shot While Sitting In Car
Former NBA star, Andre Emmett, 37, was fatally shot early Monday morning (Sept. 22nd) in Dallas, Texas. According to reports, Emmett was sitting in his car in front of his home in Dallas when he was confronted by two males around 2:30a.m. One of the men flashed a handgun and an altercation ensued which Emmett fled on foot, but he was fatally shot. According to police, a passerby found Emmett near his house and called 911. Emmett later died at the hospital.

The Dallas police are in search of Emmett’s murderers. The DPD say witnesses reported seeing two male suspects, one described as a tall, thin Black male wearing a red hat who took off in a white Chrysler 300 onto North Fitzhugh toward Ross.
Emmett spent two seasons with Ice Cube’s BIG3 league as one of the leading MVP candidates, ranking second in the league in points scored this past season. The league released a heartfelt statement on Emmett’s death on Monday,
“The BIG3 is in a state of shock over the sudden and tragic death of Andre Emmett. Andre was a member of the BIG3 family for two season and never without a smile on his face. His Kindness towards others and easy-going demeanor made him a joy to be around.”

Just before his tragic murder Monday, Emmett shared his last few moments with his children Kennedy and Zara.

The former BIG3 player also had an extensive international career as well as parts of two seasons in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies and New Jersey Nets. The 2004 second-round draft pick appeared in 14 total games but his two stints came seven years apart. In an interview with The Dallas Morning News in 2018, Emmett spoke on his journey back to play.
“This journey has been amazing It’s had its ups and downs and I’ve learned from both the highs and lows. I just had to stay with it and keep grinding. I quit trying to drive my car. I know that God has a plan for me and I’m just along for the ride.”
Dallas Police are asking that anyone with information regarding this incident contact Detective Sayers with the Dallas Police Department Homicide Unit at (214) 671-3647.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Emmett family.Â
