Kanye West’s ‘Jesus Is King’ Film Earned $1 Million In The Box Office Opening Weekend
While Kanye West’s Jesus Is King album made waves on streaming services, his matching documentary did its thing in the box office!
The 35-minute IMAX film was released Friday (Oct. 25) and already brought more than $1 million in its first weekend ($1.03 million to be exact). It was shown in 21 international cities from Chicago and L.A. to Melbourne, London, and Copenhagen.
It made $862,000 in 372 theaters here in North America and an additional $175,000 from 68 other cities in 12 markets around the world.
And while it’s already seen lots of success, it looks like it’ll just be the beginning as IMAX is in talks of adding 78 more foreign territories on Nov. 8.
President of IMAX Entertainment, Megan Colligan, said,
“We saw an opportunity to create a cultural moment with a visionary artist in a way that expands the Imax brand, while surprising audiences and experimenting with what we can bring to our platform beyond blockbusters.”
It was all filmed time in James Turrell’s Roden Crater in Coconino County, Arizona.
