Cleveland Browns Player Jermaine Whitehead Waived After Threatening To Fight Fans & Telling Reporter: Don’t Get Smoked F**k A** Cracker!
After a heated social media exchange over the weekend (Nov. 3rd), former Cleveland Browns safety, Jermaine Whitehead is now out of a job as he was cut by the franchise for his online threats. Shortly after the Browns 24-19 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Jermaine Whitehead, 26, lashed out on Twitter with a series of aggressive messages in response to criticism. In one of his alarming tweets, not only did he threaten to fight a reporter, Jermaine Whitehead called the reporter a racial slur. He writes,
“Come get it in blood b**ch, made a** lil boy. I’m out there wit broke hand. Don’t get smoked f*ck a** cracker.”
In a second exchange with a NFL fan, Jermaine Whitehead also threatened to harm someone for their online criticism.
Soon after his alarming online threats, Whitehead’s Twitter account was suspended before he’d even left the visitors locker room.
In response to the safety’s online exchange, the Brown’s made their decision to cut Whitehead the following day (Nov. 4th). According to reports, a spokesman for the Browns released a statement on their decision,
“Jermaine Whitehead’s social media posts following today’s game were totally unacceptable and highly inappropriate.”
The former NFL player took to his Instagram to share his lengthy apology for his reckless online threats and racial slurs. He begins,
“I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for my actions following our game with Denver. That was totally out of character for me. I do not justify my actions, but was extremely frustrated with the way I had played and our team losing because of it. I was playing with a broken hand, but that is no excuse for my actions, and I am deeply regretful.”
He ends,
“I want to personally apologize to anyone who I offended, especially those who I was responsive to on Twitter. My choice of words did not reflect who I am, but only what I was feeling. Also, my sincerest apologies to my teammates, coaches, the Browns organization and most of all, the fans and kids that motivate me to even pursue this dream.”
Whitehead, who was acquired via waivers from the Green Bay Packers midway through last season, appeared in eight games this year and compiled 41 tackles and an interception.
