Quentin Miller Reacts To Anniversary Of Drake’s ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’: That Sh*t F*cked Everything Up For Me!
Thursday (Feb. 13) marked the five-year anniversary of Drake‘s Beyonce-inspired surprise project, If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late. Fans shared their favorite songs and their memories associated with the release on social media. However, one person wasn’t keen on reminiscing on 2015’s hottest hip-hop release: songwriter Quentin Miller.
(If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late was the mixtape that spawned the controversial, polarizing beef with rapper Meek Mill. Meek Mill named Quentin as Drake’s ghostwriter, and later reference tracks of Drake songs were leaked with Quentin’s vocals on them).
In a now-deleted post, Quentin Miller essentially says the beef ruined his career:
“A lot of people been congratulating me and sending me messages about the five-year anniversary of ‘If You’re Reading This…’ and sh*t. And I look on socials and I see producers and other people that were involved with the artist, and they get to talk about how proud they are of the sh*t. And, it’s different for me, you know. It’s pretty much taboo for me to even talk about it. I pretty much try to act like it doesn’t even exist- the biggest sh*t of my entire career, right?”
“Unfortunately I don’t have the good memories about it everyone has, my good memories were all murdered the day Meek Mandela…The day he put my name out there and just blew up my whole spot. That sh*t just f*cked everything up for me, bro. In the confusion of that sh*t, me and Cannon and DJ Drama and that whole camp- our ties were severed because of that sh*t. Y’all don’t know what them phone calls was like, y’all don’t know what them text messages was like, y’all don’t know what that pressure was like. It was a lot- it was hot.”
Quentin, understandably, feels slighted now that Drake and Meek Mill have made amends:
“In the end, that n*gga Drake and Meek- them n*ggas is best friends now. They watch basketball games and do shows and sh*t together now, you know?…five years later I’m still trying to shake that sh*t…Everyone wanna kick me to the curb, man. F*ck that sh*t, give me the opportunity, man.”
