Flavor Flav Says He Wasn’t A Part Of Chuck D’s Publicity Stunt: I Am NOT A Part Of Your Hoax!
Update #2 (April 3): Flavor Flav is now denying that he was included in Chuck D’s joke. He took to Twitter to shut down his former Public Enemy groupmates claims.
He wrote,
“I am not a part of your hoax .@mrchuckd,,,there are more serious things in the world right now than April Fool’s jokes and dropping records”
He then encouraged Chuck D to donate to COVID-19 relief efforts for MusiCares.
“…the world needs better than this,,,you say we are leaders so act like one,,,donate to those in need here:”

Original Story: Public Enemy fans can take a deep breath when it comes to the group’s standing with rapper-turned-reality star, Flavor Flav. As we previously reported, Flav and Public Enemy front-man Chuck D made public statements attributing their breakdown to a disagreement over a Bernie Sanders rally. Flav reportedly sent the Sanders campaign a cease-and-desist order to not use his likeness.
Chuck D later doubled back, adding that on top of being booted from the group – Flavor Flav had been suspended since 2016.

However, it turns out the firing was a hoax planned in favor of the group’s new album, “Loud Is Not Enough.” Ahead of an official online statement, Chuck D told Talib Kweli why they came up with the scheme:
“We felt that over the past few years, Flavor’s stock was low. Anybody that could take a shot at him could get a good shot at him…We already talked about this beforehand. Public Enemy Radio went up [at the Bernie Sanders rally]. His lawyer sent out a cease and desist. I’m like, ‘Good move.’ Then, publicly: ‘Man, you don’t f*ckin’ sue me again.’ He ain’t suin’ me. But I can say it! If the public is confused about this, that, whatever—they’re gonna be confused about what’s a lawsuit and what’s not. ‘Yo, man, you suing me again publicly? Boom. F*ck that. You’re fired dude. This is my last thing with you.’ OK. We knew what was gonna come. I’m not sayin’ it’s a hoax, I’m sayin’ that the original intention is to get your attention and not play attention, but get you to pay attention.”
He continued, saying Flavor Flav can’t be pushed out of Public Enemy:
“He can’t, he’s a partner. You can’t fire partners. You just walk away from ’em. There’s a select few that do know—that I had to let know—that me and Flav have been better than ever…We takin’ April Fools. We takin’ it over. It’s April Flav Chuck Day.”
Now would be a good time to add one of Flavor Flav’s signature ad-libs: “Wow!”
