2 Chainz Feeds The Homeless Instead of Opening Atlanta Restaurant For Dine-In Service

Last week, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp began to ease the state’s social distancing restrictions. The state’s first round of businesses reopening began Friday, (April 24) with businesses like bowling alleys, salons, spas, and gyms opening their doors for the first time in weeks. Monday (April 27), restaurants and movie theaters in Georgia were also allowed to resume providing dine-in services. Escobar Restaurant, co-owned by Atlanta based rapper 2 Chainz was initially switching from take-out only to dine-in service following Gov. Kemp’s controversial directive, however, the decision was largely frowned upon and criticized on social media.

The backlash was so intense, the rapper and his business partner Snoop Dillard had a change of heart and reversed their decision to open. In a video posted to Instagram, 2 Chainz who recently challenged Meek Mill to a Verzuz battle, was wearing a mask, hood, and plastic gloves and shown walking in front of his establishment today. He captioned the post:

“Instead Of opening @escobaratlanta up today we decided to feed the homeless.”

The rapper gave out food to people in need Monday (April 27) in front of the Escobar Restaurant and Tapas. While Escobar looks to reemploy it’s 120 furloughed staff members, the main concern is for everyone’s safety. The Atlanta hotspot updated followers on Instagram reporting:

“We are open for take out only this week! The food options are endless!!”

There are now 23,773 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Georgia, with 942 reported deaths.
