Oprah Winfrey Will Speak At Facebook’s Virtual Graduation Ceremony
All isn’t lost for the Class of 2020! This year’s graduates have been faced with the devastating loss of their senior year’s experiences due to COVID-19’s strict stay-at-home orders. But veteran social media platform, Facebook, is coming to students’ rescue.
On May 15th, Facebook will stream a live graduation ceremony with media mogul Oprah Winfrey delivering its commencement speech, according to reports. Other celebrities set to participate in the festivities are Lil Nas X, Jennifer Garner, Simone Biles, and Awkwafina. Miley Cyrus will perform as the ceremony’s musical guest.
But that’s not all Facebook is doing for the Class of 2020! Leading up to the virtual graduation, senior-related content will go live – such as student showcases, senior superlative templates, and Instagram stickers that link to graduation songs. Facebook is also using the event to promote the newly-launched Messenger Rooms – Facebook’s answer to the popular conference video chat system, Zoom.
Meanwhile, Oprah Winfrey herself has been keeping busy while complying with social distancing guidelines. Her long-time boyfriend actually grabbed a pair of clippers for the first time to cut hair last week!
This was on the heels of Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham’s reunion after she banned him to the guest house so they could quarantine apart.
Will Facebook’s virtual graduation ceremony suffice for the Class of 2020? Let us know what you think in the comments!
