Russell Wilson Remembers Father On 10th Anniversary of His Passing

NFL superstar Russell Wilson is mourning the loss of his father on the 10th anniversary of his death.

Russell Wilson’s father, Harrison Wilson III, played football and baseball at Dartmouth and once tried out to be a wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers in 1980. He passed away from complications with diabetes at the age of 55.

A young Russell Wilson is featured on the photo he shared to his Instagram. He’s wearing a football uniform as he and his father stand on a football field, both with almost identical grins. He paired the picture with the caption:

10 years ago. We lost you. However, HEAVEN gained you. June 9, 2010.

He continued,

Dad, I miss you everyday. You were and still are one of my greatest inspirations. You helped instill Perspective, Vision & Belief in me. 3 things necessary for not only success but overcoming. Jesus blessed me with an amazing Dad in you and I will forever cherish my time with you.

If I could have one wish in the world, it would simply be to be able to go on a ride with you again and jam out to Earth, Wind, & Fire “Devotion” again.

Russell still has a great relationship with his mother, Tammy Wilson. Earlier this year, she praised Russell for his parenting skills with his and singer Ciara’s 3-year-old daughter Sienna, and his stepson, Future, 6.

Tammy Wilson said,

“You would not know that Future is not his. He plays baseball with him, teaches him how to play basketball, throws him in the pool…does all that. They wrestle a lot…”

She continued,

“When he first told me about her, he sent a picture and I’m like ‘She looks familiar.’ I didn’t really follow Ciara. I either seen a documentary or read an article about her. But I’m gonna be honest with you, I did say something about, cause I’m a mom, I love my kid, I’m like ‘Doesn’t she have a kid?’ You know. So he and I had conversations about that…And I look at my own situation and how I was born, so I can’t judge anybody.”

“So I said to him, I’m like ‘Okay, if you’re really serious about it, then you have to love that kid as if it were your own, even if it means you give that kid your name.’ If you’re gonna be with someone who has a kid, you can’t treat that kid any differently than if it were yours.”
