Kandi Burruss Cries As She Talks To Andy Cohen About Talking To Her Son About Police: That’s Not Something You Have To Think About

Multi-hyphenate businesswoman Kandi Burruss-Tucker may be wealthy, but the realities of being an African-American parent during these racially-sensitive times are not lost on her. Just last week, Kandi Burruss’s husband, Todd Tucker, took to Instagram to express his hurt in explaining police brutality to their four-year-old son, Ace. He was a policeman for a recent career day at his school. Todd Tucker told followers:

“I haven’t been very vocal lately as my heart has been hurting. My son was a police officer for his career day last year. We were watching the news and he asked me “the police are bad guys?” With a puzzled look. It was so hard explaining to him that the police can also be the bad guys. He was so confused…And I’m still working on explaining to him the horrific acts of the police. We must have honest conversations with our children and prepare them.”

Kandi Burruss recently appeared on “Watch What Happens Live” with Bravo exec Andy Cohen and daytime talk show host Tamron Hall, where she explained how she and Todd Tucker are discussing the Black Lives Matter movement:

“Obviously, I’m getting it from all different ages. We have Riley and Kaela who are on the older side of things. Which Riley- she’s very opinionated…she goes to a school where, obviously, the minority is Black. The majority is white. But she was like, ‘Okay. I am unfollowing every single friend or person that is non-Black who is not speaking up about this- who’s not showing that they are an ally with our community.’ She’s like, ‘It’s one thing for them to say we’re friends or we’re cool, but if I don’t see some type of something that they’re recognizing what’s happening right now- I’m unfollowing them.’ And she seriously did.”

“Then, on the younger side of things, my son, Ace, who’s four- he was a policeman on career day. And so when Todd was trying to explain to him what was going on, and why everybody was so upset, and what was happening with the police – Ace was confused. He was like, ‘So, the police are the bad guys?'”

She then, tearfully, explained the difference between raising Ace as an African-American little boy to Andy Cohen’s son, Benjamin.

“Isn’t that crazy to have to explain that to a four-year-old? For you to be Black and have to worry about a police being the bad guys- I know y’all say I cry all the time, but that’s an emotional thing for me. And Andy, I know you care about us, but you don’t have to think about that. That’s something that we have to think about for our sons.”
