Missy Elliott: I’ve Learned More About History In 2020 Than Ever, My Mom & Aunts NEVER Heard Of Black Wallstreet
Missy Elliott has been using her social media pages to keep fans up to date with current events relating to the Black Lives Matter movement and all of the recent lynchings and shooting of black teens and activists in various areas of the south.
On Thursday morning (June 18th), Missy Elliott tweeted that she’s learned more about history this year via social media than any year prior. She wrote,
I feel like I’ve learned more about history in the year 2020 than ever… So many stories I’m seeing on here they never taught in my history classes smh.
The four-time Grammy winner replied to her own tweet and continued to elaborate further:
My mom and my aunts said they never heard of the Black Wall Street & they are seniors so why didn’t school teach them about this either
One of Missy Elliott’s followers caught wind of her revelation and asked the star about the power of social media to which Missy replied:
Yes as much as social media can be toxic it has been a blessing not just for promoting product but to learn because I’ve learned so much in the last month it’s crazy…
Another follower added how this year has been “outing a lot of racist friends and family.” The “Lose Control” singer replied,
Yes it’s sad. The energy is heavy.
She was also all for updating history books.
