Janelle Monae: Misogyny From Most Men In Rap Is Infuriating, Y’all Can’t Wait To Call Women Every B*tch & H*e!
Janelle Monae is taking her issues with lyrics in rap, mostly from men, to Twitter. The singer actress sparked a controversial conversation when she first wrote,
“I really only ever wanna hear women rapping . The amount of misogyny from most of men in rap and music is infuriating . We need to abolish that s**t too .”
Janelle Monae continued,
“Women (black women in particular) have been betrayed by the majority of men for far too long . The systems that enable Patriarchy and abusers of power are burning . Either bring gasoline or burn with them .”
The singer ends her tweets by saying,
“Y’all can’t wait to call women every b***h , h*e , discuss violent acts against women, etc for clout in rap, rock, and through out music history. Misogny has NEVER been okay yet it has become normalized. Women didn’t create misogny, y’all did. SO YOU DO THE WORK to ABOLISH IT.”
This isn’t the first time that Janelle Monae has come out in support of women. Last month, the singer spoke about her character in Amazon’s drama “Homecoming“ dating Hong Chau’s Audrey, an Asian woman. She opened up about the fictional romance in an interview stating,
“To have a black woman and an asian woman in a relationship on TV is the type of representation that we need.”
She also spoke on the tragic death of George Floyd and called on her white counterparts to step up against racism and police brutality.
“Because we need you. We need more people inside these places, inside these police precincts and these buildings, to stand up. And to be marching. And to be right there with us.”
