Cardi B Becomes 1st Female Artist Named ASCAP Songwriter Of The Year Twice
Congratulations to Cardi B! The 27-year-old rapper will be making history at this year’s ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards as the first female artist to repeat as Songwriter of the Year. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards will be held virtually beginning Wednesday (July 15) and running through Friday (July 17). This ASCAP Award event honors the top songwriters in R&B, hip-hop, and gospel.

Cardi B won the award last year, following in the footsteps of other women like Kandi Burruss who won in 2000, Alicia Keys who won in 2005, and Mary J. Blige who won in 2007.
While she’s not the first woman to win the award, she’s the first to win it twice.
The event marks ASCAP’s fourth one this year. All of them have been held virtually due to COVID-19.
While Cardi is making history with this award, it’s been a while since she came out with new music. But she vowed it would be worth the wait last month. She teased,
It’s comin. It’s going to hit too!!!

Throughout her success, she’s also made it clear she has no problem supporting those who paved the way before her. She told on critic earlier this year,
“I RESPECT EVERYBODY WORK. I respect everybody before and after me I just don’t kiss a**… People say I never make it and HERE I AM! With you on my twitter page, without being invited”
