Gospel Singer CeCe Winans Addresses Her Appearance In COVID-19 Ad Ordered By Donald Trump: It Was Not Political At All

Gospel singer CeCe Winans has spoken out after she became a trending topic online because of her appearance in an ad campaign about COVID-19, which was reportedly ordered by Donald Trump. 

CeCe Winans took to Instagram late Friday night (Sept. 24th) and said in a video:

“I was asked a couple of weeks ago to do an interview with the Surgeon General, Jerome Adams, about the coronavirus. This interview stresses how important it is for everyone to wear a mask. It also gives us other instructions on how to get on the other side of this pandemic. It is not political at all. We have lost so many lives to COVID-19. Let’s all do everything we can so we won’t lose any more. God bless you.”

According to Politico, the Health and Human Services department is leading a $300 million ad-blitz campaign (reportedly paid for with taxpayer dollars), that spokesman Michael Caputo previously said was ordered by the president. The ads, which will reportedly air before Election Day on Nov. 3, will feature video interviews between Donald Trump’s administration officials and celebrities who speak on the pandemic and Donald Trump’s response to it.

Infectious-disease expert Tony Fauci will reportedly speak with actor Dennis Quaid, and CeCe sat down with U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams for her portion of the interview.

Her appearance came after her members of her family, including her brothers, fellow gospel legends Marvin Winans and Bebe Winans, were diagnosed with COVID-19. Caputo previously said that CeCe and Jerome Adams were tapped to help spread the message black communities.

A representative for CeCe, Chaz Corzine, made a statement:

“She volunteered her time participating in the PSA and was happy to do so because of her concerns about how Covid has and is impacting the African American community.”
