Stevie Wonder Leaves Motown After Nearly 60 Years + Opens Up About Kidney Transplant
Stevie Wonder is opening up about his successful kidney transplant. Late last year, the 70-year-old legendary artist had the procedure and now he’s opening up about his experience. He explains:
“I was blessed with a new kidney and that happened on December 6, 2019.”
He continues,
“I feel great. My voice feels great. I told my daughter Aisha, ‘I’m going to be like five years younger than you now. I’m going from being 70 to being 40.’ I feel like I’m about 40 right now. I’m feeling great.”
He also announced that he was leaving Motown after after nearly 60 years. He’s now signed to his own imprint, What the Fuss Records, under Republic Records, which keeps him within the Universal Music Group family. Additionally, he revealed he’s releasing two new songs.
Last year, Stevie Wonder publicly announced that he was having a kidney transplant during the British Summer Time concertgoers in London. He told concert attendees:
“So what’s gonna happen is this: I’m going to have surgery. I’m going to have a kidney transplant in September of this year.”
He continued,
“I’m all good, I’m all good, I’m all good. I have a donor, it’s all good. I want you to know, I came here to give you my love and to thank you for your love.”
Prior to his announcement there were reports that he was suffering a
“serious but manageable health issue.”
Thankfully, his transplant was a success.
