Omari Hardwick Suggested An Alternate Ending For ‘Power’: When Ghost Dies, Tommy Takes His Own Life
Fans were locked into Power episodes since the start of the series, following along with the main character Ghost aka James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick) and his misadventures tackling drugs, police officers, multiple love interests, family politics, and more in the gritty New York streets. The drug dealer, who intends to revamp his lifestyle, battles with one foot in the streets and the other incorporating family and children all impacted by his past decisions.
The show’s ending with a season 6 finale shocked fans as the show’s creator Courtney Kemp described it as the “saddest ending of a television show ever.”
The show’s main character Ghost met his untimely demise and was shot by his son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), dying in the arms of his best friend Tommy (Joseph Sikora).
Now, Omari Hardwick is revealing his own ending to the show. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly Hardwick, star of new thriller Spell, said he originally wanted seven seasons instead of six.
“I’m jogging in Boston, and it comes to me as how it should end. Just creatively I shared it with [Kemp]. I emailed it in case she uses it and I at least have credit. What I email her was that it’s season 7 and Ghost, like Denzel [Washington] in Man on Fire, an eye for an eye, a life for a life, he has to go help his brother, Tommy. Tommy does what he shouldn’t do and Ghost has to give his life. I share with her, she likes it. I shared it with Joe, he’s a big brain, a hell of a writer, and he excitingly goes, ‘Oh man, let’s take it a whole nother level.’ And we create Romeo and Romeo. So when Ghost dies, Tommy can’t live without Ghost and Tommy takes his life and he falls on top of the body of Ghost. That’s what I thought should happen.”
Instead, Tommy, played by Joseph Sikora, lives on and mourns his friend while he moves to LA. It was previously reported that Tommy landed his own spinoff series, Power Book IV: Force. Starz has given the green light and ordered 10 episodes, making the announcement back in August.
Earlier this year, Joseph Sikora teased a spinoff when he wore a hat with “TOMMY Season One” displayed across. His location read,
“Start of Route 66”
He added the caption:
“Who’s READY?!!!”
