EXCLUSIVE: Trina Braxton Talks Reality TV’s Portrayal Of Reality Stars: They Can’t Use What You Don’t Give Them
In an exclusive sit down with theJasmineBRAND, Trina Braxton talked about how reality stars can control the narrative of how they are viewed by the public.
There have been numerous reality TV stars in the past who have slammed their respective networks they worked for, accusing the network of painting them in a bad light. For example, earlier this year we broke the story that Romeo Miller and Master P would be quitting “Growing Up Hip Hop” on WEtv after the father and son duo had a disagreement with production, accusing them of orchestrating drama.

Trina Braxton now says production can’t use what you don’t give them.
“Well one of the things I’m going to say about reality TV, you know a lot of people say ‘oh that’s not me, that’s editing.’ But people can’t use what you don’t give them. And the thing is you can have a moment of perpetuity where it’s like ‘oh they keep making me look this way’, or ‘they keep making me look that way.’ No. If you don’t give them that every week, or every time the cameras come on, then they’re not going to be able to show you in that light.”
She used her first two seasons on The Braxton Family Values where she was seen with a cup in her hand in various scenes, and fans began to label her as an alcoholic.
“Think about it, the first two seasons I’ll even say of the ‘Braxton Family Values’, they wouldn’t be able to say ‘oh Trina drinks too much’ if I didn’t have a cup in my hand every time you saw us filming.”
Trina adds that she made the necessary changes to not be viewed that way in seasons to follow.
“It was up to me to change that outlook people had about me. or it’s up to me to depict the way I wanted to be viewed. So I can’t blame you guys or anyone else for that they said about me if I didn’t give that information to them.”
