Serena Williams Emotional After Losing Australian Open Semi-Finals To Naomi Osaka, Says ‘I Don’t Know’ When Asked About Retirement

Serena Williams had a moment of emotion after losing in the Australian Open semi-finals round to Naomi Osaka.

Naomi Osaka defeated Serena Williams in straight sets Wednesday night (Feb. 17th).

While leaving the court, Serena Williams put her hand over her heart and was asked during a post-game press conference if that was her way of saying goodbye to the game for good.

She told reporters,

“I don’t know. If I ever say farewell, I wouldn’t tell anyone.”

She was also asked about the loss and whether she would chalk it up to “a bad day at the office.” She appeared to fight back tears and said,

“I don’t know.”

She then stood up and told the audience, “I’m done” before walking out of the room.

Naomi Osaka showed love to her former mentor Kobe Bryant as she spoke on advancing to the finals during her post-game press conference.
