Tia & Tamera Mowry Both Auditioned To Play Ashley Banks In ‘Fresh Prince’ Before Starring In ‘Sister, Sister’

Before landing their own popular sitcom Sister, Sister twins Tia Mowry-Hardrict and Tamera Mowry-Housley tried out for another classic series.

Tia Mowry-Hardrict revealed in an interview with Buzzfeed that they both auditioned for the role of Ashley Banks in The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. 

“I was going in for Tatyana Ali. My sister and I both auditioned for that role, but we didn’t get it.”

Instead, Tatyana-Ali landed the part.

Tia Mowry-Hardrict said not landing the role was a blessing in disguise.

“But we’re glad we didn’t get it, because we probably wouldn’t have done Sister, Sister.”

Fresh Prince aired for six seasons from 1990-1996.

Sister, Sister first premiered in 1994 and also aired for six seasons before going off the air in 1999.

Interestingly enough, a potential cast change also happened for Sister, Sister as Jackée Harry, who played Tia Mowry’s adoptive mother said she almost turned down the role because she didn’t want to play someone’s mom.

“I had to test for it, I didn’t want to do it, I didn’t wanna be a mom, I didn’t. I said, ‘That’s the end of my career,’ because in those days .. it was like, your career is over, which is true back in the day.”

She continued:

“But I never thought people would like it and the difference being, of course, they were adopted and we were new parents and all that … But then as we started doing it, I got very comfortable with it, and now I can be a grandmother, whatever, you have to transition. You can’t just say, ‘I’ll do it because I’m an actor,’ and then go home and be like, ‘I don’t wanna be a grandmother.’ But I’m a grandma now, and I’m loving that in real life.”

As for a reboot, Jackée Harry said you can count her in as she suggested a storyline.

“Definitely a reboot where they have their own kids, it makes sense. They’re both so vibrant and I love them dearly, we’re very close. I don’t want to do something old.”
