Jay-Z Says His Family Is His #1 Priority: Feeling Loved Is The Most Important Thing A Child Needs, Not ‘Here’s This Business I’m Going To Hand Over To You’
In a rare interview, rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, recently bared his thoughts on family life, the state of the nation, and how he’ll be remembered.
Firstly, however, Jay-Z lets fans know that he has been busy making money moves. In recent months, he has already gotten into the cannabis business, sold a majority stake in TIDAL, and sold half of his champagne brand to LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
While Jay-Z has clearly been busy, he also acknowledges that while he misses being on tour, he does not currently plan on doing so for some time. He is also sure to point out that his main priority at this time is his family, not business ventures. He told Louis Wise of The Sunday Times,
“Feeling loved is the most important thing a child needs, you know? Not ‘Here’s this business that I’m going to hand over to you, that I’m creating for you.'”
He continues,
“Just make sure we provide a loving environment, be very attentive to who they want to be. It’s easy for us, as human beings, to want our children to do certain things, but we have no idea. We’re just guides.”
Jay-Z shares daughter Blue Ivy (9) and twins Sir and Rumi (3) with his wife, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.

Jay-Z is sure to also comment on the state of the nation, expressing sentiments regarding how far we as collective Americans still have to go. He states:
“As a human race we’re still on basic things. We’re still on Stop Asian Hate. We can’t sit and cry over spilt milk, but we do have to acknowledge that there’s milk, right?”
Continuing, he claims,
“Are we here today? No. Are we further than 50 years ago? Yes.”
Wrapping up the interview on a reflective note, Jay goes on to acknowledge his personal and professional journey, claiming:
“I’m most proud of overcoming my circumstances and providing opportunity for people who look like me and who came from the same situation that I’ve come from.”
