Prince Harry Compares Royal Life To Living In A Zoo: I Don’t Want To Be Part Of This
Prince Harry is continuing to provide an insider’s perspective into the life of a royal–and his decision to leave!
Earlier today (Thursday, May 13th), Prince Harry guest-starred on the Armchair Expert podcast and touched on a variety of topics, including his thoughts on growing up in one of the world’s most well-known families. Co-host Dax Shepherd asked Prince Harry how it was to grow up in a small family who was “watched by millions,” and Prince Harry called the experience:
“[A] mix between The Truman Show and living in a zoo.”
After this light-hearted statement, Prince Harry elaborated on the negative side of growing up in the royal family. He even brought up his mother, Princess Diana, who tragically died in a car accident in Paris while evading paparazzi back in 1997.
“It’s the job, right? Grin and bear it. Get on with it. I was in my early 20s and I was thinking ‘I don’t want this job, I don’t want to be here. I don’t want to be doing this. Look what it did to my mum. How am I ever going to settle down and have a wife and family, when I know it’s going to happen again?'”
Prince Harry continued,
“I’ve seen behind the curtain, I’ve seen the business model and seen how this whole thing works and I don’t want to be part of this.”
These revelations provide additional insight into Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle‘s decision to distance themselves from Buckingham Palace. While the royal family’s alleged mistreatment of and racism towards Meghan Markle was the breaking point, it looks like Prince Harry has been struggling with his royal position for quite some time.
