Samuel L. Jackson & Danny Glover Will Receive Honorary Awards At 2022 Oscars
Actors Samuel L. Jackson and Danny Glover have something to look forward to next year as it was just recently announced that the pair will be receiving honorary awards at the 2022 Oscars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced yesterday (June 24) that they will be presenting the actors with honorary Oscars statuettes at the 12th Governors Awards on January 15, 2022. Samuel L. Jackson, 72, along with actress/comedian Elaine May, 89, and Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann, 82, will all receive honorary Oscars. While Danny Glover, 74, will be honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
The Honorary Oscar Award that Samuel L. Jackson will be receiving is awarded to celebrate extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy. And the Humanitarian Award, which is also an Oscar statue, is to praise those whose humanitarian work has credited the larger industry.
Even though this will be the first Academy Award for both Samuel L. Jackson and Danny Glover, Jackson has received an Oscar nomination before for Best Supporting Actor for Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction.

Academy President David Rubin released a statement on the honorees and said,
“We are thrilled to present this year’s Governors Awards to four honorees who have had a profound impact on both film and society. Sam Jackson is a cultural icon whose dynamic work has resonated across genres and generations and audiences worldwide, while Elaine May’s bold, uncompromising approach to filmmaking, as a writer, director and actress, reverberates as loudly as ever with movie lovers.”
He added,
“Liv Ullmann’s bravery and emotional transparency has gifted audiences with deeply affecting screen portrayals, and Danny Glover’s decades-long advocacy for justice and human rights reflects his dedication to recognizing our shared humanity on and off the screen.”
The awards will be presented in an untelevised ceremony separate from the main Academy Awards event.
