Naomi Osaka Reflects On Withdrawing From 2021 French Open: There Are A Lot Of Things I Did Wrong
Life is all about self-reflection and learning as we grow and tennis star Naomi Osaka is doing just that. As previously reported, Naomi Osaka shocked the world when she made the decision to withdraw from this year’s French Open.
Her controversial decision came after she was fined a hefty $15,000 fee for refusing to speak to the press during the competition. Naomi Osaka shared prior to the sporting event she wasn’t speaking to the media as a way to protect her mental health.
In a recent interview ahead of the U.S. Open, Osaka chatted about her now-viral decision and what she could have possibly done differently. She shared
“Honestly, I feel like there are a lot of things that I did wrong in that moment, but I’m also the type of person that’s very in the moment. Like whatever I feel, I’ll say it or do it. I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. I think there’s a lot of things that I learned to do better. Of course, I don’t feel the same situation will happen again.”
She added,
“I would say, maybe think it through a bit more in the way that, like, I didn’t know how big of a deal it would become.”
Naomi Osaka is set to play in the 2021 U.S. Open tomorrow, Aug. 31, against Marie Bouzková at 7:00 p.m. EST. On Aug. 29, Osaka shared in a lengthy post that, despite being a tennis superstar, she still battles with feeling like she’s not good enough.
