‘Big Brother’ Makes History W/ First All-Black Final 6, Group Previously Formed Alliance Called The Cookout
Long-running CBS series Big Brother has recently made history!
Yesterday (Thursday, Sept. 9th), a new episode of Big Brother aired. The series premiered back in 2000, and it is currently in its 23rd season. During last night’s episode, Big Brother made history when the show’s “final six” was entirely comprised of Black people. In the show’s 21 years, a Black person has never won and been the last one standing–but that will change this season, as everyone left on the show is Black!
The six people in question are Azah Awasum, Derek Frazier, Hannah Chaddha, Kyland Young, Tiffany Mitchell, and Xavier Prather. Notably, they all formed an alliance at the beginning of the season–named “The Cookout.”
One Twitter user broke down how much of a big deal this is, pointing out that–over the past 11 seasons–only one Black person has made it to the final six.

The user also acknowledged that, while earlier seasons of the show featured Black contestants in the final six more regularly, it was never an all-Black group.

Big Brother will continue to air on CBS. The season is scheduled to end on September 29th.
