‘Big Brother’ Names First Black Winner Xavier Prather: We All Made History This Season
Big Brother recently had its first-ever Black winner!
As previously reported, the current season of Big Brother–season 23–made history after its final six contestants were all Black. The group–Azah Awasum, Derek Frazier, Hannah Chaddha, Kyland Young, Tiffany Mitchell, and Xavier Prather–had previously formed an alliance dubbed ‘The Cookout’ to secure their spots in the final six.

An all-Black final six was significant because it guaranteed a Black winner on the series. Since Big Brother first aired back in 2000, there have been zero Black contestants who won. A Twitter user broke this down online by highlighting the number of Black final six contestants over the years.

Now, Big Brother has made history once again by announcing its first Black winner ever – Xavier Prather. The 27-year-old attorney was the last one standing after he, Derek Frazier, and Azah Awasum all made it to the final three. Once Xavier Prather and Derek Frazier advanced to the final two, the “jury” of former houseguests ultimately voted for Xavier to win. Resultingly, he took home the $750,000 cash prize, and Derek took home the $75,000 second-place prize.
Regarding his win, Xavier Prather commented:
“It’s surreal. I wouldn’t have been here without all the members of The Cookout and every single member of the jury. And those members not in jury, who were part of the season, can’t thank you guys enough. I’m so blessed to have met every single one of you and we all made history this season, so I think we should all be proud.”
