Idris Elba Says He Won’t Be The Next James Bond
Idris Elba is removing himself from the conversation of who will step in as the next James Bond.
Fans have rooted for Idris Elba to take over the iconic role for years – and chatter has intensified as Daniel Craig took his final bow in his last James Bond film, No Time To Die, which was released Friday (Oct. 8). Daniel Craig has played the role for roughly 15 years.
Idris Elba said during the premiere of his latest project, Netflix’s The Harder They Fall,
“No, I’m not going to be James Bond.
Still, don’t count him out completely. When asked if he would ever want the gig he added,
“Who wouldn’t? How amazing would it be to have a Black James Bond? It’s a sign of the times when we can stop talking about Black, white, and color.”
His comments come after he became a trending topic on Twitter as the Bond producer announced the search for the next lead role will commence in 2022.
Barbara Broccoli said,
“We want Daniel to have his time of celebration. Next year we’ll start thinking about the future.”
Meanwhile, Idris Elba is staying busy. He’s slated to play Knuckles in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film and previously confirmed that the Luther film will start taping this year.
