George Floyd’s 4-Year-Old Niece Hit By Stray Bullet While Sleeping In Her Bed On New Years Day
Sadly, George Floyd’s 4-year-old niece, Arianna Delane, was shot while sleeping in her bed during the early hours of New Year’s Day. Reportedly, several shots were fired into an apartment just before 3 a.m. on Saturday (Jan.1) while four adults and two children were inside. Arianna was shot in the torso and is currently in stable condition after having emergency surgery. According to reports, her father, Derrick Delane has spoken out, describing the traumatic incident.
“My daughter jumped up and said she had been hit. I (saw) the blood, the bleeding, and I grabbed her.”
Reportedly, Arianna’s father said that authorities did not arrive to their home until 7 a.m. — four hours after the shooting occurred. Due to the delayed arrival of EMT and authorities, he had to drive his injured daughter to the hospital himself.

Police Chief Troy Finner addressed the incident in a statement. He said,
“I am aware and have concerns regarding the delayed response time in this incident and have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation…I ask the city [Houston] continue to pray for the child’s full recovery and assist in providing information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects responsible.”
This incident marks yet another tragedy for the family. As previously reported, Delane’s Uncle, George Floyd was wrongfully murdered by Minneapolis police in 2020 during an arrest after a store worker accused Floyd of using a counterfeit $20 bill. The City of Minneapolis eventually settled a wrongful death lawsuit with Floyd’s family for $27 million. One of the officers responsible for Floyd’s death, Derek Chauvin, was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison this past June. The trial of the other three officers involved in the incident is scheduled to begin in March of this year.
Police are asking anyone with information on the Arianna Delane case to contact the department’s major assaults and family violence division at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
