Kanye Confronts Netflix, Claims They Shut Him Out Of His Documentary: Open The Edit Room Immediately So I Can Be In Charge Of My Own Image!

Kanye West appears to be unhappy with the way Netflix is handling his documentary.

Rap icon Kanye West took to Instagram to let Nextflix know that he wants control over the documentary that they’re releasing about him. He posted a picture of a promotional poster for JEEN-YUHS and captioned it:

“I’m going to say this kindly for the last time. I must get final edit and approval on this doc before it releases on Netflix. Open the edit room immediately so I can be in charge of my own image. Thank you in advance.”

A Netflix mini-series documenting the rise of Kanye’s career was first reported around April 2021. The project was reportedly acquired for $30 million. Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, better known as Coodie & Chike, were said to be overseeing the documentary. The duo had previously worked with Kanye during his early years, producing music videos such as “Through The Wire” and “Jesus Walks.” Over the years, they videotaped the rapper behind the scenes. Their footage will be used in the film.

Topics covered in JEEN-YUHS: A Kanye Trilogy include the tragic death of Kanye’s mother, Donda West, how he evolved into a fashion maven, and his brush with politics during the 2020 election.

The documentary is slated for release on Feb. 16. Netflix recently uploaded a trailer, which shows a young Kanye perfecting his craft between 2002-2004.

Kanye West is listed as a producer for the film.
