James Brown Documentary Produced By Mick Jagger & ‘The Roots’ Members Questlove & Black Thought Set For 2023 Release

A brand new James Brown documentary is coming your way next year!

James Brown is known by many as the “godfather of soul.” The late entertainer has many accomplishments under his belt, including 17 singles that hit number 1 on the Billboard R&B charts. In addition to that, he was inducted into the Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame as both an artist and as a songwriter.

According to reports, music fans will soon get to see James Brown’s life unfold on their screens in an upcoming A&E network four-part documentary. The documentary entitled “James Brown: Say It Loud” has some big names attached to the project and will be produced by Rolling Stones member Mick Jagger and Questlove and Black Thought from The Roots.

The project will feature exclusive archival footage in addition to interviews from Brown’s friends and collaborators. It’s set to be released in 2023. The film follows the 2014 biopic “Get On Up,” starring Chadwick Boseman as Brown.

Mick Jagger spoke on the upcoming documentary and said,

“[James Brown] was a brilliant performer who inspired me from the beginning and was deeply committed to the Civil Rights movement.”

He added,

“I have always admired James and learned so much from him.”

Questlove and Black Thought also released a statement on their latest creative endeavor.

“The life of James Brown is significant not only to understand his immense musical impact, which inspires us and other artists to this day, but also for the deep and lasting impression he has had on American culture.”

They added,

“Brown’s life is a crucial and timely story of struggle, redemption, and self-identity and we are honored to have the chance to share it.”
