Mathew Knowles To Manage $275M Film & TV Fund, Will Release ‘King Richard’ Style Biopic Titled ‘The Mathew Knowles Story’
Mathew Knowles, former manager of Destiny’s Child, veteran music executive and father to superstars Beyoncé and Solange will soon be able to add filmmaker to his list of accomplishments.
The 70 year-old businessman founded his own music company 30 years ago called Music World Entertainment Group. Long time music executive, Mathew Knowles, is now making moves in the film and TV industry after selling the famed music company Music World Entertainment Group to investment firm APX Capital Group. The music company is set to merge its film and TV division with the investment fund. Mathew Knowles will now manage this new division, which will be responsible for a $275 million fund for film and TV productions between the U.S. and Italy, according to Deadline.
Knowles was heartened by the success of King Richard, the biopic of Richard Williams, father and coach of Venus and Serena Williams played by lead actor Will Smith. Knowles is now preparing for his own biopic with one of the first projects set to come out of the deal, titled The Mathew Knowles Story. The story will reveal behind the scenes footage of how he helped take Destiny’s Child and his daughters to stardom as well as how he managed the careers of both Destiny’s Child and the solo careers of Beyoncé, Solange, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland.
APX Capital Group reportedly “will own 10,000 hours of footage depicting the history of the Knowles family in the music industry through never-before-seen images, videos and music.” The making of legendary R&B girl group Destiny’s Child has always been talked about, but now fans will be available to go through the journey on the TV screen. As part of the deal, Knowles’ role is to also develop, fund and produce a range of content across feature films, scripted series and documentaries, reports Deadline.
Joint Co-CEO of APX Capital Group, Yona Wiesenthal, is thrilled to partner with Knowles, his team and his vision, joining the APX board immediately.
“We are beyond thrilled to reach this groundbreaking agreement with Mathew and his team to develop impactful content told through the voice of one of the most successful and insightful entrepreneurs in entertainment today.”
Knowles said the partnership with APX Capital Group and Music World Entertainment Group will expand cultural awareness more than ever.
“The decision to partner with APX Capital Group is well made and corresponds to Music World Entertainment Group’s intent to expand its film and television portfolio. Through this unique collaboration and as head of this new division under APX I’ll be able to share the story of my life by combining compelling storytelling with access to exceptional talent and music that will both entertain and emphasize a cultural awareness that’s necessary now more than ever. This is the story of my life, and I am honored to be able to transmit it even further through this alliance.”
The $275 million fund for film and TV productions will be run through APX’s Italian subsidiary, MMF Global Italia.
