‘Moonlight’ Actor Andre Holland Set To Play Black Panther Leader Huey P. Newton In Upcoming Series Directed By Don Cheadle
It’s been reported that Apple TV is going to chronicle the story of Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton’s infamous escape to Cuba. According to reports, the six-episode series titled, “The Big Cigar,” is based on the Playboy magazine article that detailed how Newton relied on his best friend, Easy Rider producer Bert Schneider, to elude a nationwide manhunt and escape to Cuba while being pursued into exile by the FBI.
Actor Andre Holland, 42, is set to play the Black Panther leader. Holland is best known for his role in the Oscar-winning film “Moonlight,” in which he played Kevin. He has also starred in critically-acclaimed films like “42” and “Selma,” as well as shows like “The Eddy,” “The Knick,” “Castle Rock,” and Season 6 of “American Horror Story.”

“The Big Cigar” marks Don Cheadle’s, 57, latest venture as a director as he expands his skills behind the camera in addition to his numerous acting roles. Cheadle is best known for his roles in films “Hotel Rowanda,” “Ocean’s 11,” “Traffic,” and “Iron Man,” just to name a few. He previously directed multiple episodes of his popular Showtime series “House of Lies” as well as his Miles Davis biopic “Miles Ahead.”
