50 Cent Is The Reason Yo Gotti Rebranded Cocaine Muzik Group: ‘They’re Going To Be Scared Of That’
50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson) may be seen as nothing more than a bully to some people, but when he talks, people listen—and that includes Yo Gotti (real name Mario Sentell Giden Mims).
The CEO of Collective Music Group, who graces the cover of Billboard Magazine with his line-up of successful artists, shared in an interview how he arrived at his new and reformed name for CMG. Billboard branded the group
“the hardest-working label in hip-hop.”
Fans may remember a time when the acronym stood for Cocaine Muzik Group—but they’re about so much more than that.

During the interview, Yo Gotti shared that 50 Cent previously told him,
“I was having a [phone] conversation with 50 Cent, and he was like, ‘Yo, you’re winning, but you can’t be Cocaine Muzik Group, that’s too harsh. They’re going to be scared of that.’”
He added that 50 Cent‘s comments put things into perspective for him. Yo Gotti continued,
“[I] thought about it like, ‘D*mn, he’s right. What else does CMG mean?’ He put it in my head to start thinking in that direction.”
Yo Gotti embraced the learning experience and soon after changed the name to Collective Music Group, a move he called a natural change given his commitment to strength and the success of others around him.
Lehla Samia, Moneybagg Yo, Blac Youngsta, Mozzy and EST Gee are among the musicians signed to the CMG label, as seen on the Billboard cover.
