Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson Officially Sworn In, Marking History As First Black Woman On The Supreme Court
Ketanji Brown Jackson has officially kicked down a huge U.S. government barrier!
As of today (June 30th), the 51-year-old U.S. federal judge was officially sworn into Supreme Court, the highest court in the country. With her nomination confirmed a few months ago, Ketanji Brown Jackson became the first Black woman ever voted into the position. Now, with her swearing-in today, the moment will be forever written in history.
According to reports, Justice Jackson is the 116th person to sit in a Supreme Court Justice seat. She’s joining three other women on the court, marking the first time women hold 4 of the 9 seats available. During the ceremony, it was reported that her husband, Dr. Patrick Jackson was present, holding the Bible while the oaths were administered.

Reportedly, Justice Jackson will assume her workload in the new position immediately, though the court will soon take a break until the fall. When the session returns, reports state the Supreme Court Justice will be hit with,
“roughly two dozen cases the court already has agreed to hear starting in October as well as hundreds of appeals that will pile up over the summer.”
We wish Justice Jackson the best of luck in her new role!
