Update: Lebron James Clarifies Remarks On If Brittney Griner Would ‘Even Want To Go Back To America’ Following Her Russian Detainment: I Was Simply Saying How She’s Probably Feeling Emotionally Alone
Update: Lebron James is setting the record straight on his recent comments surrounding Brittney Griner and her ongoing detainment in Russia. He Tweeted,
“My comments on “The Shop” regarding Brittney Griner wasn’t knocking our beautiful country. I was simply saying how she’s probably feeling emotionally along [alone] with so many other emotions, thoughts, etc inside that cage she’s been in for over 100+ days! Long story short #BringHerHome”

Original Story: Looks like NBA star Lebron James disagrees with America’s handling of Brittney Griner’s overseas arrest.
As previously reported, 31-year-old WNBA star Brittney Griner was taken by Russian authorities back in March of this year. Police claim Griner broke the law by attempting to carry hash (cannabis) oil cartridges on her luggage back to her home in the U.S. The Olympic Gold Medalist has remained behind bars since, after the U.S. government has repeatedly failed to negotiate her release.

Lakers giant Lebron James has been one of the most vocal celebs to advocate for Griner’s release. During a recent episode of his HBO talk series The Shop, the champion winning hooper gave his unsatisfactory opinion of the government’s response to her arrest. Speaking on the matter, James stated:
“Now, how can she feel like America has her back?”
He continued:
“I would be feeling like, ‘Do I even want to go back to America?'”
Earlier this month, it was reported that Griner sent a letter addressed to President Joe Biden. The Phoenix Mercury team member pleaded with the President to urgently assist in her release, noting she feared she’d “be here forever”. Though the Biden campaign has repeatedly claimed to be working on negotiations, it seems nothing has proven successful.

Griner’s detainment came right in the midst of Russia’s assault against the Ukraine. Details about WNBA star’s arrest remained silent at first. Reportedly, the U.S. hoped to avoid the hoop star being used as political leverage.
Griner recently appeared before a Russian court, however, where she plead guilty to drug trafficking charges. Her sentence has yet to be handed down, but she could reportedly be facing up to 10 years in Russian prison.
